Depending on the implementation, Whaptics can either detect finger position through the material or across its surface. For example, in a typical Whaptics implementation under glass, the display material contains no embedded or sandwiched electronic components. Nestled safely away from water, steam, and heat, the Whatpics optical sensor faces outwards to trace an invisible grid that detects the movement and position of a person’s fingers over the surface, providing the expected natural and responsive experience.

Glass and black-panel interfaces can be used in numerous types of everyday products, from dishwashers and kitchen ventilation hoods to keypads and infotainment control systems. Effortless motions of the hand replace pressure-sensitive pads, resistive, and capacitive solutions, also eliminating problems from worn zones due to repeated touch patterns.
