What different types of Whaptics solutions are available?

Depending on the surface and the application, Whaptics technology offers two usage models:

  • Whaptics 1 pass-through detection technology: the detector unit is mounted beneath the surface in order to scan the area or space on the other side.
  • Whaptics 2 surface detection technology: the detector unit scans the surface area of the interface from a position to the side of the area, detecting the x/y position of a hand or finger.

In both cases, the H2i Touchless Touch system offers manufacturers the unique ability to create interactive human interfaces in a nearly unlimited number of environments, including harsh and wet applications, direct sunlight, and on nearly any type of material, even in thin air.

Is Whaptics waterproof? Can I use it to create an interface for a submerged electronic device?

WhapticsT components can reside under infrared-transparent material for use in watertight applications. This solution is used by H2i customers in products that are now commercially available. Whaptics surface-skim solutions are generally not designed for use in high humidity situations.

Can I superimpose interface controls using Whaptics?

Yes. There are some cases where this functionality can be useful.

How far does the surface-skim Whaptics detector protrude from the interface surface?

The detector unit stands out 6 mm from the interface surface.
